    Welcome to Refurence. By accessing or using our website and application, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use Refurence.

    1. Description of Service

    Refurence is a hosting platform designed for character reference sheets and related character information. We provide tools for users to upload, store, and display their character data.

    2. User Accounts

    To use certain features of Refurence, you must register for an account. Regarding your account:

    • Data Collection: We require a valid email address and a password to create and authenticate your account.
    • Security: You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials. You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account.
    • Age Requirement: You must be at least 18 years old to use this service.

    3. Privacy and Data Usage

    We respect your privacy and limit data collection to what is necessary for the app to function.

    • Personal Info: We store your email and hashed password for authentication purposes only.
    • IP Addresses: For security, rate limiting, and moderation purposes, we process IP addresses. These are stored in a hashed format (anonymized) and are not stored in plain text.
    • Character Data: Any information you upload regarding your characters (images, biographies, text) is stored to provide the service.

    4. User Content and Copyright

    You retain full ownership of the content you upload to Refurence. We do not claim ownership of your art or characters.

    • License to Host: By uploading content, you grant Refurence a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, display, reproduce, and distribute your content solely for the purpose of operating and displaying the service (e.g., showing your ref sheet to people you share the link with).
    • Your Responsibility: You certify that you own the content you upload or have express written permission from the copyright holder to upload it.
    • Prohibited Content: You agree not to upload content that is illegal, promotes hate speech, constitutes harassment, or violates the rights of others.

    5. Moderation and Termination

    We reserve the right to:

    • Remove or disable access to any content that violates these Terms.
    • Suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms.

    6. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

    • "As Is" Basis: Refurence is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis. We make no warranties regarding the uptime, reliability, or accuracy of the service.
    • Data Loss: While we take backups and security seriously, we are not liable for any loss of data or content. Please keep local backups of your reference sheets.
    • Liability: To the maximum extent permitted by law, the creators and operators of Refurence shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.

    7. Changes to Terms

    We may modify these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via the email address associated with your account or by posting a notice on the site. Your continued use of Refurence after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
